CALGARY: Hundreds of international students, including a significant number from Punjab, have launched an indefinite protest in Calgary following the mass rejection of their Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) applications. The demonstrators state that they spent lakhs of rupees on foreign education with hopes of building a stable career and achieving permanent residency (PR). However, sudden policy changes by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have left their careers in total limbo, cutting off their legal right to work and earn an income.
Faced with immense pressure from outstanding student loans back home, the youth have vowed to continue their peaceful dharna until the Canadian government reviews their cases and provides urgent policy relief
