Glasgow: India has continued its impressive campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games with another major success. Indian weightlifter Gyaneshwari Yadav won a silver medal in the women’s 53kg category with a brilliant performance. With this victory, India’s total medal tally has reached five, out of which four medals have come in weightlifting.
23-year-old Gyaneshwari Yadav lifted a total of 199 kg during the competition. She finished second with 88 kg in the snatch and 111 kg in the clean and jerk. Her performance was very impressive throughout the competition and she displayed her courage and technical ability brilliantly.
Gyaneshwari also set a new Commonwealth Games record by lifting 88 kg in the snatch round. This achievement has made her a strong contender for the competition. After this, in the clean and jerk, she successfully lifted 103 kg in her first attempt, 107 kg in her second attempt and 111 kg in her last attempt. Thus, her total score was 199 kg, with which she managed to win the silver medal.
In the competition, Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih performed brilliantly and lifted a total of 206 kg. She not only won the gold medal by lifting 93 kg in the snatch and 113 kg in the clean and jerk, but also set a new Commonwealth and Games record.
With this success of Gyaneshwari, the performance of the Indian weightlifting team has further strengthened. So far, India has won four medals in weightlifting, which shows the ability of Indian athletes to consistently perform excellently in this sport.
With this latest medal, India has reached the eighth position in the medal list. On the other hand, Australia is at the top of the list with a total of 39 medals, including 17 gold medals.
