Patiala, August 29:
Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh today led a state-level cleanliness and garbage clearance campaign in Patiala under the second phase of the Punjab Government’s ‘Mission Clean Punjab’. He called upon the people of Patiala and Punjab to make cleanliness an integral part of their daily lives and actively contribute towards keeping the state clean and hygienic.
The Health Minister personally participated in the cleanliness drive by taking up the broom on Jail Road, near Thapar Institute, this morning and formally launched the second phase of ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ in Patiala. Mayor of Municipal Corporation Patiala Kundan Gogia, senior officials, city residents and representatives of various social organisations were also present on the occasion.
Describing ‘Mission Clean Punjab’ as another important step towards a cleaner and more beautiful Punjab, Dr Balbir Singh said that keeping Punjab clean and beautiful was not the responsibility of the government or sanitation workers alone, but a collective responsibility of every citizen. He appealed to the people to cooperate with the Punjab Government in keeping their cities and villages clean and to segregate wet and dry waste at their homes before handing it over for collection.
The Health Minister said that the 10-day campaign, being organised from August 29 to September 7 under ‘Mission Clean Punjab’, launched by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, aims to clean garbage-prone sites and make cities and villages across the state cleaner and more beautiful.
He appealed to the people not to consider cleanliness merely as a campaign, but to make it a part of their daily responsibility. He said that every citizen must make a meaningful contribution to ensure the success of this initiative of the Bhagwant Mann Government.
Dr Balbir Singh also appreciated the ‘Mera Patiala, Main Hi Sawaaran’ NGO and thanked its members for their contribution to the cleanliness campaign. Municipal Corporation sanitation workers, trainees of the Punjab Jail Training School and residents of Patiala actively participated in the state-level cleanliness and garbage clearance campaign.
Senior Deputy Mayor Harinder Kohli, Deputy Mayor Jagdeep Singh Jagga, ADC (Urban Development) Navreet Kaur Sekhon, Additional Commissioner Simarpreet Kaur, Councillor Jasvir Singh Gandhi, Colonel JV, Charanjit Singh SK, Jatinder Kaur, Bhupinder Singh Lambardar, Mandeep Singh Virdi, Sumit Bhandari, Harish Kumar, Harinderpal Lamba, Captain Sukhjit Kaur and Executive Engineer of the Punjab Pollution Control Board Gurkarn Singh, along with other Municipal Corporation officials and representatives of social organisations, were also present on the occasion.
