Sunam, August 14, 2026 : Punjab Cabinet Minister Aman Arora today inaugurated 54 development works worth Rs. 12.60 crore in 29 villages of Sunam assembly constituency, which reaffirms the commitment of the Punjab government to strengthen rural infrastructure and provide better basic facilities to the people.
During the program, the Cabinet Minister laid the foundation stone of a significant water supply project worth Rs. 2.05 crore in Nagra village, which will provide clean and safe drinking water to 758 households. He also laid the foundation stone of a modern office building of Market Committee, Cheema, which will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 2.99 crore. Talking to the media after inaugurating the development works, Aman Arora said that the Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is giving special priority to the all-round development of villages, towns and cities and ensuring that the people have access to better basic facilities.
He said that the government’s development agenda is not limited to urban areas but is equally focused on villages and rural communities. Development projects are being initiated as per local needs and public demand so that people can avail better infrastructure and essential services near their homes. Arora said that the people of Sunam constituency have reposed their faith in him and he is committed to living up to this faith through continuous development. He said that fulfilling the promises made to the people and ensuring balanced development of the constituency is one of his top priorities.
Elaborating on the water supply project in Nagra village, the Cabinet Minister said that this project will be completed at a cost of Rs 2.05 crore. Under the project, about 17 km of pipeline will be laid and an overhead water tank with a capacity of 1.50 lakh litres will be constructed.
He said that this project will provide clean and safe drinking water to 758 households. Arora said that access to drinking water is a basic need and the Punjab government is continuously working to strengthen the drinking water infrastructure, especially in rural areas. Arora said that 54 development works worth Rs 12.60 crore are being taken up in 29 villages of Sunam constituency. These works include water supply projects, development of playgrounds, improvement of ponds, construction and improvement of Dharamshalas, strengthening of streets and drains and other essential development works.
He said that the selection of development projects is being done on the basis of local needs and priorities so that public funds can be used for works that have a direct and meaningful impact on the lives of the people. At the Panchayat Ghar of Kamomajra Khurd, development grants were provided to the Panchayats of seven villages. At Sohian village, work for disposal of waste water was started, while at Duggan village, a newly built stadium was inaugurated. At the Panchayat Ghar in Kunnar, development grants were handed over to the Panchayats of ten villages. The Cabinet Minister directed the concerned departments and officers to maintain high standards of quality and ensure that all projects are completed within the stipulated time frame.
Arora also laid the foundation stone of the new Market Committee, Cheema office to be built at a cost of Rs 2.99 crore. He said that the new office building will be equipped with modern facilities and will provide a more convenient and efficient environment for people coming to the Market Committee for official work. He added that the new facility will especially benefit farmers, arhtiyas, labourers and other stakeholders associated with agricultural activities.
Arora said that providing better and more accessible government services to the farming community is an important priority of the Punjab government and the new Market Committee office will be an important step in this direction. Responding to a question regarding the ongoing development works in the constituency, Arora said that development is continuing in all parts of Sunam, such as in Cheema and Longowal. He said that efforts are being made to complete the ongoing projects within the stipulated time frame, while additional projects will also be launched in the coming days based on the needs of the residents. He said that the government is providing sufficient funds for the development works and the officials have been directed to closely monitor the quality and progress of the projects.
The Cabinet Minister reiterated that the government’s focus is not just on making announcements, but on converting development plans into concrete works at the ground level. He said that strengthening roads, water supply, sewerage, education, healthcare, sports infrastructure and other public amenities in Sunam constituency would remain a priority. In response to a question about the attack on Shiromani Akali Dal leader Sukhbir Singh Badal, Arora strongly condemned violence in political and public life. He said that political and ideological differences are an integral part of democracy, but there is no place for violence against any individual in a democratic society. He said that political leaders should express their views before the people in democratic and peaceful ways, and every incident of violence should be condemned irrespective of its political affiliation. On the issue of rainwater accumulation on the railway underbridge in Sunam, Arora said that the Punjab government is taking the matter seriously and instead of making political allegations, it is taking a permanent solution.
